Ayush Visa for Foreigners Seeking Ayurveda Treatment
India is well-known around the world for its traditional Ayurvedic medicines and therapies, which have been used for centuries to treat a wide range of illnesses. Additionally, the government has been working to educate foreign visitors to India who frequently travel there for Ayurvedic and traditional medicine treatments on the many advantages of these therapies. They will now find it even simpler to do so.
“Heal in India” has the potential to be this decade’s biggest brand, according to our Prime Minister. In order to certify high-quality herbal items for the international market, he continued, the nation is also creating the AYUSH mark.
Importance of Traditional Medicine as per World Health Organisation(WHO)
The WHO website emphasizes the value of complementary medicine, stating that “traditional medicine, including herbal medicines, acupuncture, yoga, indigenous therapies, and others, is thought to be used by about 80% of the world’s population.” Additionally, it says that “for centuries, traditional medicine has been a vital source of health for communities all over the world, and it continues to be a mainstay for some with unequal access to conventional medicine.” Traditional medicine’s sociocultural practices and ecological legacies are priceless assets for the advancement of inclusive, diverse sustainable development. The trillion-dollar worldwide health, wellness, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical businesses include traditional medicine as well.
India is therefore one of the most well-liked locations for health tourism due to its wealth of traditional medicine and Ayurvedic knowledge.
Ayush Visa - Requirements and Features
The Government of India introduced the Ayush (AY) visa in August 2023 for foreign nationals seeking medical treatment under India’s traditional and alternative medical systems, also known as the Ayush system. The term “Ayush” comes from the Sanskrit word Ayusmanbhava, which means “long life”. The visa allows patients to access treatments such as Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy.
To apply for an Ayush visa, foreign nationals must submit the following:
- A medical invitation letter from an accredited Ayush institution
- A medical history document that explains the need for treatment
Attendants and family members of patients can apply for an AYUSH-2 (AY-2) visa, which is co-terminus with the AY-1 visa holder.
Applications can be submitted through the e-visa portal or as a regular paper visa
