Various Type of Toxins as Per Ayurveda

A detox program can boost body’s natural detoxification process. There are three different types of toxins that can impact the physiology:

  1. Ama
  2. Amavisha
  3. Garvisha

Ama is caused due to incomplete digestion. It is formed in the digestive tract when the food is not digested properly. Ama is usually caused by eating junk food or unhealthy food or due to wrong food habits.

Usually Ama aggregates due to weakening of Agni, the digestive fire. When Ama aggravates it converts to AmaVisha which is more dangerous.

Garvisha is the other type of toxin which settles in the body due to outside environmental factors.

Snehan

Panchakarma is the primary detoxification therapy in Ayurveda. It is a comprehensive treatment that involves five different procedures aimed at cleansing the body and restoring balance. These five procedures are:

The goal of detoxification in Ayurveda is to eliminate the toxins and impurities that accumulate in the body due to various factors such as poor diet, stress, pollution, and unhealthy lifestyle choices. These toxins, known as ama, are believed to be the root cause of many diseases in Ayurveda.

Vamana (emesis therapy): This involves inducing vomiting to eliminate toxins from the upper respiratory tract and digestive system.

Virechana (purgation therapy): This involves the use of natural laxatives to cleanse the intestines and eliminate toxins.

Basti (enema therapy): This involves the use of herbal decoctions and oils to cleanse the colon and eliminate toxins.

Nasya (nasal administration of medicines): This involves the use of herbal oils or powders administered through the nostrils to eliminate toxins from the head and neck region.

Raktamokshana (bloodletting therapy): This involves the use of leeches or other methods to eliminate toxins from the blood.

Panchakarma is a highly specialized treatment that should only be administered by qualified Ayurvedic practitioners. It is usually done in a specialized Ayurvedic clinic or hospital under the supervision of an Ayurvedic doctor.
