Skin Problems
Skin problems can refer to a wide range of conditions that affect the skin, including acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, dermatitis, and many others. In Ayurveda, skin problems are often associated with an imbalance in the doshas (Vata, Pitta, and Kapha) and can be caused by a variety of factors, including poor diet, stress, environmental toxins, and genetic predisposition.
Leukoderma / Vitiligo
Leukoderma also referred as Vitiligo. In this condition white patches appear on the skin. These white patches are the result of the partial or complete loss of the skin pigmentation.
In the medical condition, the skin loses its normal Colour. The term leukoderma means white (leuco) skin (derma). As the name suggest, the condition is characterized by white patches on the skin because of loss of melanin (the pigment responsible for the Colour of skin, hair and eyes.
Our skin gets the color from a Pigment called Melanin. If the cells, which make melanin, are unhealthy, it will affect the melanin production. Too much melanin makes skin dark and lesser of it makes skin whiter.
Treatment in Ayurveda for Leukoderma:

Various types of herbs like Arogyavardhini, Trivangabhasma, Mahamanjishthadi Gadha , Khadirarishta, Krumimudgar Rasa, Saarivasav, and rasa manikya is recommended based upon the medical condition of patient these medicines are given to patient.
BavachiIt is the most used herb for leukoderma. It is applied onto the skin in the form of a paste and the affected skin parts are exposed to mild sunlight for a few minutes. Sometimes, recommended in form of powder or tablets.
Psoriasis or Eczema
Psoriasis or Eczema is a common skin condition which is caused due to rapid build up of cells on the surface of the skin. These extra skin cells form scales and red patches. These red patches are itchy and painful.
Symptoms of Psoriasis:
- Red patches on skin with thick scales
- Small spots spread on skin commonly in kids
- Dryness in skin
- Itching, burning sensation
- Thickened nails
Psoriasis is a chronic disease that often comes and goes. The main goal of treatment is to stop the skin cells from growing so quickly.
Treatment in Ayurveda for Eczema:
In Ayurveda, eczema happens due to imbalance in all three Dosha mainly Kapha. Broadly two types of eczema like acute or chronic.
This occurs primarily due to a poor diet, lifestyle which impairs digestion and aggravates. The imbalance in any of Tridosha results in different types of Eczema:-
Vata dosha: This eczema is characterized by extreme dryness, scaling, itching and lots of pain and throbbing.
Pitta dosha: Pitta shows up in the skin as blisters and breakouts due to the accumulation of internally heating toxins called Ama.
Kapha dosha: Kaphic eczema itches, oozes and causes thickening of the skin.
Abscess (Pus)
A confined pocket of pus that collects in tissues, organs or spaces inside the body is called Vidradhi. The abscess could be cause of imbalance in any of Tridoshas .
An abscess is a suppurative inflammation where the pus is formed in the tissue cavity. The place is swollen, redden, warm and painful. It may also cause fever in certain cases. Abscess may occur anywhere on the body – on the back, chest, abdomen, groin, etc.
There are also internal abscesses that affect the organs – liver and lung, dental etc., and the suppurative inflammation can also develop between organs. In general abscesses are associated with metabolic disturbances and decreased immunity.
Ayurveda treatment to Pus:
Wound of abscess is cleaned and pus is drained with Triphala Kashaya and Jatyadi Ghruta is applied. Internal medication Gandhaka Rasayana, Amruthadi Guggulu, and Triphala Guggulu can be very useful in treating pilonidal abscess.
Sadyo Vamana is a type of purificatory measure mentioned in Ayurveda, which to expel the pus and morbid factors present in a dental abscess without opening it .The patient was given Sadyo Vamana (instant therapeutic emesis) to expel the accumulated pus in dental abscess without opening it.
Along with it, the respective correction of two doshas – the fiery Pitta and the water Kapha is also done by Ayurveda doctors.
Vata Vidradhi– Black In Colour Severe Painful , Swelling Different Type, Pus Liquefied.
Pitta Vidradhi– Reddish In Colour, Burning Sensation, Pus Yellowish-Red,
Kapha vidradhi– White Yellow In Colour, Cold In Touch,Less Painful, Matted Nodes, Pus White
